Programme at the event:

October 23 – 5:00 PM – Site visit at the former Melody Hotel, where you will see the following:

  • Reviving the mural paintings discovered on the façade, beneath layers of plaster.
  • Restoring the stone elements, pillars, and arches at the main entrance, which were masked by relatively recent interventions in the building’s history.
  • Implementing solutions compatible with the historical substance in the renovation of the facades.
  • Fully reproducing the zinc sheet roof elements of the Tower, which has reached an advanced state of decay.
  • Restoring the basement vaults with Romanes, respecting the ancient execution techniques.
  • Strengthening the masonry in the basement and restoring it to its original form using both modern injection solutions and materials compatible with the ones originally used.
  • Major interventions at the roof level.

October 24 – 5:00 PM – Site visit at Str. Unirii – No. 2, where you will see the following:

  • Dismantling and faithfully reproducing the degraded historical elements of the historical roof structure: beams, rafters, stringers, struts, etc.
  • Inside the building, several rooms were discovered with mural paintings on the walls. These were restored by removing the applied finishing layers and reconditioning them through specific painting restoration methods. A project was created for these and approved by the national monuments commission.
  • Removing the fillings over the masonry vaults, strengthening them by replacing the degraded bricks, injecting mortar into cracks and fissures, and applying structural plaster on the intrados and extrados of the vaults.
  • Removing degraded plaster, intervening in the degraded masonry by removing and redoing the joints, injecting mortar into cracks and fissures.
  • Restoring the interior and exterior finishes.
